Originaly had a 1275 late Cooper "S" engine (but A+ crank) developing 74hps. 8.4 discs front, spaced drums rear. Oil cooler, 3-1 manifold, Ansa rear box, close ratio box with 3.67:1 final drive.
Now had a late 89ish Metro Sport engine transplant, with a replaced "big valve head" instead of the unleaded. Metro vented dics front. No oil cooler, Cooper 3-1 manifold replaced with a std bore LCB, alloy inlet (original polished inside), Peco "big bore" improved to 45mm => well actualy a bit loud, but who cares! HIF44 (instead of the orignal HS6), and a bit "longer" final drive (3.44:1). KN pancake, electric ignition. Interior from a 90SL Inno => sadly the original items were lost.

The car used to belong to a fellow Mini owner, who started to renew it some five years ago. The shell was striped and fixed, but the work process stucked there. I have taken over the project in order to build a work-car to lighten the pressure on "Sir Bors". But to be honest, I felt in love with this "Bertone Cube". I will ty to restore it to factory spec - as far as possible and worthy. If any of You have pics featuring DeTomaso interior, please send it to me!
It is amazing how this 24yrs old little car performs between 100 and 140 kmh! |
