This is my 1973 Austin Mini 1000. I've wanted an old Mini ever since I first saw one in an December 1997 issue of European Car Magazine. Since December '97 I have sourced out all the info about this car including the maintanace and it's racing heritage. I got a really good deal on it, paid only $1,725 at an auction on ebay. The engine runs good but needs a little work. The carb needs some adjusting and it needs an exhaust system. There is some rust in the usual areas but nothing cancerist. The Mini's 998cc engine has about 83k miles on it, not bad for an old car. The previous owner was going to fix the Mini up, but did not have the time so instead he went and bought another Mini that was already restored. He then had 2 Minis but only wanted 1. The purchase was so good, I realized that I still had money left over to ship the car from Florida to Texas. Classic Minis in America are pretty rare, but to see them here in DFW area is even more rare. Since the car is not registered, inspected, or insured in the State of Texas I haven't been able to drive it much. When I can the car is just a blast to drive. I mean this sucker handles like a go-kart straight out of Putt-Putt. Since the Mini is originally from England the steering is on the other side. I don't really mind because I think it looks cool and it's not too difficult for me to steer on the right side and change gear with the left hand. I also think that a true British car should be right hand drive. Even though its not in its perfect condition, the Mini still turns more heads than a Ferrari and goes from 0to100 smiles in just under 1 second.
