Penfold is named after the little white hamster/gerbil character with a Lancashire accent from the British cartoon, Danger Mouse. Penfold was the car of the month on the car channel in December 1997. He came to live with me on Christmas Eve and would not start Christmas Day although he was reported to be in good running condition. A new alternator fixed that problem. Penfold's wiring was also a bit of a bother as every time the horn was hooted, the lights went off and the radio came on, or, if the lights were turned on, the horn wouldn't hoot and the radio would go off. This aggravating problem was eventually fixed.
I originally wanted to do a story on the 40th birthday of the mini but found there was no club in town! After organizing two successful meets in 1999 and 2000, the Victoria, B.C. mini club, Victoria Minis, was started in fall of 2000 with a group of other mini nuts.
